Our Hand Picked collection brings together exceptional rugs from traditional weaving regions including Iran, Afghanistan and Kashmir.
Unlike many of our other collections, these rugs aren’t designed by us and then produced as a range. We personally select each individual piece, choosing rugs for their design, colour, quality, craftsmanship and character.
That’s important because no two are quite the same.
Each rug has its own combination of colours, detailing and individual characteristics created by the people who made it. When we find a piece we particularly like, we buy that rug – not another one made to look like it.
Why do we call them Hand Picked?Quite simply, because that's exactly what they are.
We don’t order these rugs from a catalogue or select a design and ask for quantities to be produced. Each rug is considered individually and chosen on its own merits.
Some are traditional, some more unusual. Some use wonderfully rich colours while others have softer, more understated palettes.
What they have in common is that someone from FrithRugs has chosen that individual rug because we believe it deserves a place in our collection.
A different way of buying RugsThe Rug comes first
This is quite different from the way we source most of our other collections.
For many of our traditional ranges, we select original designs and then carefully choose the colours, yarns and finishes to create rugs specifically for FrithRugs.
For our modern collections, we work from designer drawings and original ideas, developing the designs and colour combinations before they are produced.
This allows us to offer popular designs consistently across a wide choice of sizes and colours.
Our Hand Picked collection works the other way around.
The rug comes first.
We see the finished piece, assess it individually and decide whether we want it in the FrithRugs collection.
When It's Gone,It's Gone
Because every Hand Picked rug is individually selected, the rug you see is the actual rug you’re buying.
There will never be another one exactly the same.
That individuality is part of the pleasure of owning one. Rather than choosing a rug that’s been reproduced many times, you’re choosing your rug – an individual piece of traditional craftsmanship that has been selected especially for our collection.

Over those years we’ve developed long-standing relationships and an understanding of what makes a really good rug.
We look beyond the pattern. We consider the quality of the wool, fineness of the weave, colours, proportions, handle, finish and overall character of each piece.
But ultimately, there’s also something much simpler involved:
